Basics:
What’s your name? The name you enter will be displayed publicly on the fundraiser. You don’t have to use your full name here for safety. Just be sure to add the legal name of the person receiving funds on Page 3 of the form just above “to receive funds”. Add your email so we can communicate with you. Make sure you use an email address you have access to because our team will be sending you important messages.
What’s the fund for? Choose a category so people to find your fundraiser, and select whichever seems closest to your situation.
Who are you fundraising for? If you’ll be managing transfers yourself, (personal or company account), select “Yourself”. If you’ll need to add a beneficiary, select “Someone else”. And if you are raising funds for a charity and would like the funds to be sent directly to that charity, select “Charity”.
Set your fundraising goal: Your goal amount should be how much you’re looking to raise. When setting your goal, keep in mind there will be a transaction fee per donation, so you may want to set your goal slightly higher than what you need. On this page is where you add the PayPal account the funds will go to and the legal name of the person receiving the funds.
Add a cover photo: Use a personal photo that showcases the person, animal, or cause. Keep the following in mind: Using a bright and clear photo helps people connect to your fundraiser right away. Make sure you have the right to share the photo. Allowed file extensions are .png, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, and .heic.
Tell your story:
Some ideas to help you start writing.
Tell a story -Show your reader the issue or problem with a story. Give details so it’s clear how you or someone you’re helping can benefit from a donation.
Explain your mission and outline your goal -Make sure to clearly explain the impact of the donor’s gift and how it will make a difference.
Explain how your donor can make an impact -Before donors give, explain how their donation will solve the problem. For example, if you’re raising money for an animal shelter, you can specify that a donation of $50 will provide food for X number of pets!
Call the reader to action -Explain the urgency of the situation. Tell them what your other donors’ gifts have already done to address the problem and note the progress your current fundraiser is making.
Define the problem -Clearly outline the problems you are facing.
If you’re asking for donations to pay expenses, be honest:
It’s difficult to share your financial details in your story when asking for donations. If people can understand why you really need help with money, they may be more willing to lend a helping hand. Clearly explain what has happened to you and why you need financial assistance. Let people know your plan to get back on track. People want to know if their donation is going to a legitimate cause.
If you are looking for help with monthly expenses please keep your goal under $1,000.00. By listing specific expenses that can be paid with small donations, you can get more people to contribute.
